Our Approach
A radical perspective will need to facilitate construction of understanding of scientific observations and concepts by providing a conducive learning environment. At Astitva Learning Centre in Pune, we plan to create these conducive learning environments in after school spaces with affiliated communities via an approach of collaborative action research.
The child is an active participant in the class
Children are encouraged to take up projects of their own choice which are about problems in their locality and conduct research and find solutions to them.
Teachers help children cultivate a scientific vocabulary which helps in expressing ideas accurately.
Teachers pose questions, perform experiments, encourage children to hypothesize and generate evidence through experimentation too.
Concepts are constantly linked to real life which helps create relevance and inculcates a love for the subject.
Children are encouraged to develop a scientific temper and fight against superstition and dogma.
Teacher Training
-
Teachers are educated to establish a supportive atmosphere that fosters constructive knowledge generation within the classroom.
-
In addition to sharing content knowledge, pedagogical tools are also provided. Teachers must comprehend learner characteristics and become proficient in various types of formative and summative assessments.
-
Teachers regularly convene for collaborative meetings aimed at learning, celebrating successes, and collectively building a robust knowledge base in science education.
-
Continual professional development ensures that teachers stay updated and remain dynamic in their practice.
